03 Jul Policing Engagement in Hofmeyer
On 22 June 2023, the Department of Community Safety held a Policing Accountability Engagement in Hofmeyr through Chris Hani District to address the issues of criminal activities under the theme: “MUSA UKUTHULA KUSONAKALA”
The stakeholders that graced the programme with their presence are the Department of Community Safety (DoCS), South African Police Service (SAPS), South African Council of Churches, Department of Correctional Services, Community Policing Forum, Department of Education, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).
The community members spoke on issues of theft, domestic violence, drug abuse, assault and murder in the community. Department of Social Development was urged to intervene and provide their services to the victims of the committed crimes.
The Department of Community Safety (DoCS) together with South African Police Service (SAPS) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) then proceeded to Hofmeyr sports ground where the local teams played in a Youth Day Tournament, the young people showcased their talents through various sport codes, namely Soccer and Netball. The Department donated netball and soccer kits as a token to encourage them to be more active in physical sporting activities.
